the crane Cams web site or tech support can give you the matching springs part number for your cam. I assume you're running a Crane cam. I think you were looking at the 941... look here: http://www.cranecams.com/index.php?s...41&lvl=2&prt=5
it says part number is 99837, you'll probably be looking for the 99837-16 at Summit
I'd say go with the 750. I put the Holley 600cfm vacuum secondary Holley from the old 360 on my new 390 for a while, and it was gasping for air a bit at higher rpms. I could see the intake manifold vacuum gauge lift up to about 4" at 4500rpm. With the 700cfm fuel injection, life is good. Stays pegged down around zero up until the transmission shifts.
manual tranny so i will get that on order today (hopefully)
what spring peasure are they good upto?
I have found a set of rockers from Crane 34772-16 that look as if you can replace you non adjustable rockers with adjustable rockers. Do you know anything about these. (so far i have got some like them and others do not)
hmmmm....now you guys have me rethinking my carb...I had kinda been planning on a 600 cfm....based on the standard formula CFM=(RPM * CID)/3456. When you say higher rpm's how high??? I was thinking I'd rev limit mine to 5000...maybe 5500 or 6000 after breakin....how high can you go without overstressing the engine on a standard bottom 390??
The pushrods I mentioned are good up to 310lbs spring pressure. They'll work fine with the Crane springs.
On the Crane rocker arms, honestly, I'd just go down to Napa and get replacement adjustable rocker arms. I have a couple in my 390 to replace the used POS's sent to me by DSC. They're new manufacture and are very nice. Try having 'em look up rockers for an early car 352, with mechanical lifters. Put these on in place of your existing rocker arms, use the above mentioned pushrods, and you're in business.
On the 390 bottom end, I'd say it's probably good to around 6500 to 7000rpm, with ARP hardware.
750cfm may have actually been a little much. Mine is getting by fine on 700cfm. I took a look, and you can get a 700cfm classic double pumper from Jegs or Summit for about $355.
