<DIR><DIR>I'm designing an extra gas tank and need advice. Here are just a couple of questions I had. If you have anyother suggestions for designing an extra tank or if it's useful, please tell me. Thanks,
K
Where do you usually go?
What is the gas mileage to there?
How long does it take to fill up and how many times do you have to do it?
Would you rather have a bigger gas tank (a super-tank)? Why or why not? [saves time, easier, cheaper maybe]
If yes, would you like a gas tank in the back of your truck or a removable/portable one?
Would you prefer 2 tanks or 1 tank? Why?
What are the benefits from having 1 tank rather than 2 tanks or vice versa? What are the pros and the cons for each case?
I have a 50 gal aux fuel tank behind the cab in the box (made by Handy), it also has a tool box built into the top of the tank. I pump the fuel out of the aux tank into the main tank with a Holley rotary vane electric fuel pump. The pump is controlled from inside of the cab with a switch that will only work when the ignition is on. I also mounted a fuel gauge inside of the cab next to the switch. To get the fuel into the main tank I cut the rubber hose below the filler neck and installed a 1 1/4 piece of EMT conduit with a 3/8 piece of copper silver soldered into it for the filler hose and a 1/2 piece of EMT with a 1/4 piece of copper for the vent to the tank. This is the second truck that this tank has been installed is so I prefer it over a oversize tank installed in place of the standard tank.
I like the extra capacity because when I'm traveling I can pick and chose where I get fuel and I can go 600 miles when pulling before I even start looking.
