Well, it started happening again. So it must be my ABS valve. How difficult was it to change JBronco?
I did not do the work. I was bringing the Bronco back for warranty repairs on a pair of new rotors that were warping and it actually took a couple of times before the problem was found. At that point I was fed up with the brakes and asked them "will you gaurantee that the brake problems will be fixed with this part" and they said yes so I had them do it.
I did a little research on it though, and looked at it - it's not physically hard to replace at all. It's easy to get to and it's just a matter of lines, nuts, and bolts.
HOWEVER - during my research I learned that it is CRUCIAL to follow a strict procedure for bleeding the brake system afterwards that involves bleeding the valve and master cylinder as well as doing different wheels it certain times. If not done right it will cause all sorts of problems. I guess that he did mine right, and I do recall him saying something about the bleeding to that effect, since it fixed them up perfectly and I have never had any problems since and it's about three years now. The ABS light comes on when I start the truck, does it's self-test of the system, and goes off like it is supposed to. It has never come on at any other time since. Ditto for the red brake light, the only time I see it is when I put the E-brake on.
And the RABS works like new now, for whatever that is worth.
Are the rear backing plates dry? Do the have wet spots? Your rear cylinders could be seeping a little and would cause the exact problem your describing.
Ha, no I don't have wet spots, sorry I could not resist. They are dry as can be. It is odd that both are grabbing, that is why I think it could be the valve.

Glad to hear that we don't have to use flower to find the wet spots. couldn't resist. I too have had problems with my brake system. Once I have the chance to put my Bronco up on stands again, I'll have to do a lot of R&D on my system. Especially since I swapped out the rear drums for Rotors. Which I may at some point swap out them for something from like an Expedition.
I finaly got the ABS valve in! It worked, that was my problem. They actually work better then they did before they were locking up. The seal around the electrical on the old one leaked and allowed brake fluid into the wires. Thanks for the help!
I have the opposite problem, I have no pressure to the rear brakes, I replaced the master cylinder and RABS (rear abs valve) and the problem is still there…. The brake pedal goes almost to the floor… Any ideas?
