Question Fram Sure drain kit

I posted this in the 97-03 forum and got a few replies. I thought I'd try it here as well:

Is anyone using this product? I was thinking about it but am a little apprehensive. If there was a problem, you could lose all of your oil quickly,...then your engine.

Thanks, Rockledge. I read that one. I'm still debating, didn't get the, "Definitely get one, they're great!", kinda feeling I was hoping for.

Thanks again,

Rich

Actually, that's why I recalled the thread. I thought it gave a good feel of the perceived pros and cons of the Fram and Fumoto products.

Personally, I've been a Fumoto drain valve proponent for a couple years now...

Rockledge, would you say the Fumoto is the twice the product? It looks like it is double the cost.

Thanks,
Rich

I have had one on the truck for about 2 years and am quite satisfied with the Fram. My only complaint would be it drains pretty slow. It sure does make it simple and pretty much no mess oil change.

If you dont mind slower draining it would be ok for 4 or 5 quarts, to me it wasnt worth it the wait compared to the very small amount of mess I made without it. Being able to stick the tube from the drain right into a container makes it nice, you dont have to worry about the pan to jug pouring mess. I dont even want to think about having one on my diesel, draining 15 quarts of oil with a slowdrain would take forever. I'm going to pick up a fumoto before my next change, they make it easier to take oil samples to send to blackstone plus I like the idea of draining into the 5gal jug I use to used oil to the parts store.

I never used the Fram drain kit so I can't really make a definitive comparison like that. I will say that the Fumoto valve is worth the $25, I bought one for my Ranger and liked it so much I bought another one for my Taurus GL (it won't fit on my Yamaha SHO engine or I'd have on on there). The Fumoto is not a little trinket, it is very solidly designed and constructed.

I agree that the Sure Drain is painfully slow, thus the reason I pulled it off of my F150. It easily doubled my change time. However, it did work like it was supposed to.

I know that there won't be one on my 7.3L.

So, the Fumoto drains much faster than the Fram? Where are the Fumoto's available? Mail order only?

Thanks everybody. I appreciate it. I'm trying to find something to help keep the oil stains on the garage floor to a minimum. My 2 yr. old son likes to hang out in the garage with me, so I'm trying to keep it much cleaner. I even had to take his "play" workbench and tool set and put them next to mine in the garage. Evidently, he plans on spending a lot of time in my garage.

Thanks again,
Rich
