The very best mileage I can get on my 05 is 15mpg driving like a saint. Yesterday I filled up next to a brand new Duramax with only 600 miles on his truck and he got 17.5. I know this is a Ford "enthusiasts" forum but frankly I am discouraged. The truck runs and handles good but compared to mileage reported here on FTE this is an issue for me. BTW the Duramax was very quiet. Anybody got an idea what might get me another couple of mpgs?
Mileage has so many different things to calculate you will never be able to say what the mileage should be . That is why they (diesel engines makers) dont have to put an average mpg rating on the stickers . It could be that guy drove like a granny . Or he could not be telling the truth . Take a look at GM forum (not) . They are complaining about mileage with their trucks also . We have some here reporting over 20 miles per gallon . If that guy was at the pump the gm guy would be on the gm forum saying I was next to a 6.0 at the pump and he is getting 3 mpg better than me . Anywho , how many miles are on your beast ? They do improve as you break them in . My 04 started at that 15mpg and I consistatly get 17-18 mpg without any performance upgrades . Typically performance upgrades do not increase mpg . Because we are still guys and we cant control our right foot with the added performance . Good luck !!!!
Most of the time I drive around in the SCMT High Performance tune. The majority of my driving is in town but out on the highway I routinely see mileage in the 19 MPG plus range while driving 75 to 80 MPH (typical California highway speed around here).
