2004 CC F-250 FX4. I get 16.5 with a mix of city/hwy, strictly town 15, strictly hwy over 19, this unloaded and taking it easy on the go pedal. I also have a 6 speed which is going to help. Your numbers are a little low compared to what I've seen other users post, but they are not alarming.
Two other consideration could be, where are you located? If it is a cold area you may be running #2 diesel still, which affects mpg 1-2. Other consideration is how many miles on your PSD? The engine may still be going through the break-in period. All in all though you mpg is not too low, there are members with much worse.
The truck is great. I used to go GM but they did'nt hold up working. I have 7000 miles and try my mileage unloaded. ? what is a PSD? In response, I would hate to have any worse mileage with fuel at $2.44.
PSD=PowerStroke Diesel. International makes these engines and they are called Powerstrokes. Look on your drivers side betweeb tire wheel and the door and you will have a Powerstroke badge. Maybe someone will follow behind me with the history lesson on why it is called a powerstroke diesel. I have read it before and it was very interesting, but can't recall where I read it, seems it was right here on FTE.
As for the mileage you might even get a few members tell you they wish they could get your mileage. The MPGs seem to vary on these trucks, but most get in the 15-16 range unloaded, 10-12 loaded.
At 7,000 miles it probably is not totally broke in yet, but getting closer. So you may see a small increase in time with more miles behind you. Here in Oklahoma I think our pumps are back to summer diesel blend as I've seen a slight increase in Mpgs over the last couple weeks.
If you go in my gallery, you can look at my excel spreadsheet and see my averages. With 10k miles I get 13.5 in town and 17-18 ish on the freeway. However, with 35's now I don't think those will stay that high.
My truck was the same on mileage as yours . It's a 04 6.0 FX4 CC 3.73 rear Automatic . This past week I had the tranny recall done . While the dealer had it I had them give me the latest flash . Wow ! What a difference . I just figured my first tank since having the truck back . I hand calculated 20.2 MPG . That was 70% highway 30% town driving . Lie-o-meter said 20.7MPG .I hope this continues .
Lee22 - My 05 gets almost exactly the same as yours. The better mileage reported is mostly from the earlier 03s and 04s. It is a great truck but the mileage is a dissappointment and now very costly. To get 15mpg on the highway I must drive it like a Duramax (very slow)!
The only thing that really spins me up is before I got my 05 diesel was always .10 cheaper than 87 octane regular gas. Now it's the price of mid grade.
i would like to find out if anyone has gone to the dealer with the 05' mileage issue i tow a 14' cargo every day and only get 9.5 to 10.5 i have tryed a volant airbox, revs well better performance no mpg gains, camper top no mpg gains ,vfront trailer no mpg gains, fuel additives(diesel kleen, lucas) no change my mpg no load max has been 12.5 highway or city have 15050 mi, production date 10/04, 2005 f250 fx4 4x4 crew cab shrt box 3.73, any help would be appr. thanks, by the way from new orleans i have also tried many different fuels and there is no difference in my mpg or performance dealer says there are no bulitins for o5's.
