drip rail chrome removal

I'm painting my 77.5 highboy and need to know how to remove the drip rail chrome (in one piece) and then reinstall when I'm dont painting.

When I did mine I was afraid I would ruin it taking it off so it was one of the few things I didn't remove.

I think there just tack welded on, find the tacks and drill them out and they should come off. If you do screw them up they have them at NPD, I think they were pretty cheap.Or you could shave them off and give it a smooth look.

The chrome trim is actually bent around the metal drip rail.

On my dad's 1976, f-100, I ripped one off with a tree branch. I popped it back on and it was fine. albeit scratched up.

not sure it's the proper way but it should pop on and of like this did.

Use a blunt nose bottle opener . very carefully and a little at a time. Works like a charm. I removed my crew cab ones this way. And you know how hard crew cab drip rail mouldings are to get, so I didn't want to ruin them.
