How are the drip rails above the window mounted from the factory? Mine appear to be welded on, but on my father-in-laws 86 Chevy, they are mounted onto the cab with 4 screws. If they come welded from the factory, how does the chrome molding attach?
I think mine are rigged, but want to make sure. If you got some pics to illustrate how they mount, I would appreciate it.
Yes, they are welded as part of the roof structure unlike the chevy/GMC that screwed on.
The drip rail molding basically clips on the bare rail. Difficult to remove without damaging it but the moldings are reproduced.
is it me or does it seem like the installation of the drip rail chrome will totally scratch the hell out of the paint on the drip rail, maybe to the point of scrapin it down to bare metal just invitin rust?
The drip rail itself is welded on but the molding is more of a snap on fit. It is nearly impossible to remove the molding and reuse it.
No the drip rail molding doesn't remove all the paint. It is a very tight fight and might scratch it a bit but I don't think it is going to turn into a rust event.
The roof rail is welded and sandwiched between the roof panel and the door and windshield frames.
Use the bottle opener pictured below (the rounded end, not the pointy end) to carefully pry up the underside of the moulding away and off. Wrap the larger tang, not the tab, with electrical tape to avoid marring the polished trim.
To install the trim, place it in position and roll it back over and then firmly press it on... like re-capping a beer bottle.. but what freakazoid would do that?
