Anyone know where I can get a Magic Air system for my 57? It has the stock heater, and I don't really want to change to a modern system, but would like to be able to shut off the hot water in the summer.
You can use the tried-and-true option that came with the vehicle - a valve on the block (or intake manifold) that shuts off the flow to the heater in the summer.

If you have a place for a cable I would install a shutoff valve that you can adjust while driving. Even during the summer some mornings a little heat is nice.
Ford part # C3TA-18495-A (at least I assume it's a Ford #) is a very straight forward, compact heater control valve that mounts in-line, and is only 1.5 inches long. It is cable operated or you can just set it by hand. I'm going to use my throttle cable to operate it (I don't have MagicAire) since my carb is missing the throttle cap.
My 56 Magic Air heater valve is mounted on the firewall on the passenger side of the cab, above and to the right of the heater motor that protrudes thru the firewall. It is cable-operated from a panel of ***** located under the dash.
My stock valve was so corroded, it wouldn't shut off. Made for hot summers. I replaced the stock valve last year. I was unable to locate exactly the same valve. Although the new valve operated the same, the valve was 90 degrees out of phase with the stocker. Had to take it apart, reclock it, and rig a new approach for the cable. Works great.
If you don't already have the Magic Air valve, I would go with ALBUQ's part.
George, Nice engine. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I gotta ask. I see that the spark plug wires on the rear of your Y-block are secured with small black blocks after they come out of the dist. cap. My Y-block does not have this. The plug wires droop down loose. Is your installation stock or after-market? Is there a place for that wire-block to attach? Where do I get me some? Thanks, Jag
Stock setup, black wire grommets are available at JobLot Automotive - FAA-12297-C for the rectangular ones on the back of the block, FAA-12297-A for the square ones on the side of the block. They are held in place with sheet metal bands as you can see in the photos below. I don't know if the sheet metal parts are available anywhere, but you could certainly make some without too much effort. They bolt onto the block or intake manifold as you can see.
Thanks George, I called and found out that Joblot had one of the brackets available and the two pieces for FAA12297-C. Unfortunately, they did not have the "A" units. I think that I can make matching brackets copied from the new one and maybe fab the other grommets as well. This should really clean up those wires that have look messy for 11 years. Jag
