Hi gang.
New to the forums here. Just bought a used 1999 F250 Super-Duty last week and just love it. I've drove GM vehicles all my life and now am a Ford owner. Love the Super-Duty trucks. I have a question about mine. It's about the keyless entry. When I bought my truck used last month it did not come with a remote. I figured well, it's a XLT will all the bells and whistles. Went online and ordered a keyless remote. Got it in the mail today and doesn't work. First off. They state to turn the key off and on 5 times in 10 seconds then my Ford owners manual states to turn the key off and on 8 times in 10 seconds. Well the doors did not unlock/lock. Nothing. Anyway of telling if my truck even has keyless entry capablities? I'm so lost here. I'd appreicate any info. Thanks.
I always thought those things had to programmed specifically for your truck. This keeps everyone else with keyless entry from being able to open each others trucks. Is it a Ford device? You might want to try going to a dealer..
I don't know for sure how to check if you have keyless, but I do know not all XLT's come with it. My 04 f250 CC XLT did not come with it. I was told that if you turn the key on and off 8 times and the locks don't cycle than you don't have it.
If you cycled the ignition 5 times and your locks did not cycle, you most likely do not have this option. I purchased a '99 F350 amonth ago, took it to the dealer, they checked my truck this way and bame, the locks cycled. Once I got the remote, I cycled the key 5 times, leaving it in the "on" position the last time, and press any button on the remote and worked great.
If you continue to have trouble with this, you may want to try a locksmith before going to the dealer. You may have to check with three or four before you find one that can help. Hope you get it to work.
Also, you may not be set up for keyless entry. As stated above, not all XLT's have this feature. That said, as long as you have power door locks, it may not be too big a problem to add the Ford keyless entry, especially since you already have the key fob. I don't know if the door lock motor is different or if it simply has a receiver of some sort added to it. Again, this would be a good question to ask the locksmith if you can find a good one.
