I bought a 2002 used f350 lariat Deisel. It's loaded, except no keyless entry pad or remote opener. Keyless/wireless entry pads are available on e-bay. Does anyone know how to tell if the truck is pre-wired to add a keyless entry?
I was told that if you turn you ignition key on/off 8 times, if the locks open/close, this means its keypad ready. Before spending the $$, i would like conformation.....Anybody know???
to program the remotes turn the ignition switch on and off eight times. the last time the locks should cycle. when that happens just leave the key on. to program the remotes just press any button on each remote. you can program up to four key fobs per vehicle. if you try this and the locks cycle then all you need is the key fobs to have keyless entry. a 2002 lariet should have keyless. hope this helps. just let me know if i can help in any other way.
the ford dealer I work at sells a wireless key pad that looks totaly original and sticks to your door where the factory one would go. you just program your own code in, and it works !(your vehicle must be equiped with at least the key fob entry set up)...they sell for about $120 installed. Do the key on/off deal 8 times(sometimes it's only 5 times) to see if you have keyless entry set up first.
If your truck is a Lariat, it most likely came with a keyless entry factory installed. It will be incorperated into the Gem module and you will have lock/unlock relays. Look in the fuse panel for lock/unlock relays, if you have them then all you have to do is get a remote and have it programmed to work with the factory system. If not, you will have to get a aftermarket system or get one from Ford for it to work. Factory remotes are floating around on E-bay for reasonable prices.
Thanks to all. I borowed my neighbors FOB, did the key 8 times and walla, it worked. However now, when he unlocks his truck....it also ulocks mine. We had a real good laugh about that. Guess I better get down to the dealer an get my own before my wife thinks there is a ghost.
How can you tell which are the relays. My truck does the confirmation when I cycle 8 times, but neither my FOB or my wifes Explorer FOB will work with my truck. I put a new battery in mine and still no good. My wife's FOB works on hers so I know it is funcitonal.
It took me a couple of times to get mine to work. First, you need to be sure you have the right FOB for your truck.
If I recall, this is the process that worked for me. When you do the 8 Key cycles, be sure to leave the key in the ON position once the door locks cycle. Then, press the LOCK button on your FOB. That was it.
Like I said, it took me a couple of times to get it to work. If it still doesnt work, try borowing a FOB from someone that has another similar truck. If that works, you know your FOB is dad or broke.
By the way, If the Borowed FOB works, remember that anytime that person opens there truck (when close to you), it will also open yours. So be sure to get a new FOB programmed into your truck rifgt away.
Before I bought my FOB, I borowed my neighbors just to be sure i had the relays in my truck. The day after I programmed his FOB to my truck, he came home and was showing his wife the panic alarm button on his FOB. We'll you guessed it, both trucks went off. It was a spectical.
Hi Guys, Just joined the site. I bought a Great F350 Chassis cab XL in October. It has Power door locks but no remote door fobs > Is there an easy way to tell if all I need is the remote door FOB? Or best way to get key less entry for theis truck (would like to stay factory.
Thanks for the reply RWDFAN , yea, I looked back through and found the threads >tried the "Doors locked-8 on/off" no dice > so it looks like I go the after market key-less system. Any recommendations? I wonder if
anybody done this and used the stock ford power actuators, and wired them into the aftermarket receiver/transmitter system with success???
I figure my truck has everything but the "Brains & remoter receiver" to work.
Make sure you are leaving the key in the on position the 8th time.
However, being an XL it probably doesn't have the keyless entry option. Most XLTs and up came with it, but I don't think the XLs had it unless it was specifically ordered that way.
There are plenty of aftermarket systems out there though. Most will probably be a combination system with an alarm, keyless entry, and maybe remote start as well. Look for a shop in your area that deals in car audio and accessories.
Well, I used to have a car with power locks but no keyless, its not as much work to get keyless entry as long as you have power locks. Just get a viper alarm system or something at the same time. These powerstrokes are notoriously easy to steal anyhow
I have an alarm still in the box laying in my garage. Just too lazy to put it in. Was hoping my truck had factory keyless so I could just find some used fobs and program them. Oh well. Looks like I have a day of wiring ahead of me.
