Unhappy 1999 F-150 Remote Keyless Entry Question

Hi There...

This is my first post to this forum and have been looking at the posts and threads to find out more about Remote Keyless Entry stuff.

I recently bought a used 1999 Ford F-150 Extended Cab with Styleside.
The truck has power locks, airbag, anti-theft system, power windows.

Thinking that I had Remote Keyless Entry, I bought two Key Fobs through Ebay.

Programming mode didn't help. I turned the key from off to run both 5 and 8 times without any response from the door locks. One member said that you had to go from off to ACC those number of times in the specified period.

Somewhere in the threads I read about the subject, I thought I saw something about the anti-theft system had to be off to program the Remote Keyless Entry...Is this true?? And If so.... How do I disable the anti-theft system??

I know the anti-theft system is operational in my truck because when the key is out, the "THEFT" light blinks.

I looked for an either white or yellow module having two connectors with large numbers for coding (I don't need those numbersfor door keyless entry, as I only have (or think I have) Remote Keyless Entry. )

My owners manual says I DO have Remote Keyless Entry so I am confused.

At least the manual doesn't specify "If Equipped" which leads me to believe it does have Remote Keyless Entry.

Whats more confusing is that the maintenance checklist I found in the glove box (after I bought the truck)had a check mark that tested positive the functionality of Remote Keyless Entry.

Maybe the inspection was just pencil-whipped!!! How could it test good if they didn't have a fob for me at the time of sale!!!

I basically forced the used car salesman to send me two key fobs for the truck. I didn't know too much about the extra bells and whistles of the model truck I was buying, so I was ignorant at the time of sale that the truck had Remote Keyless Entry.

Most people say the RAP is up under the drivers side dash just left of the brake pedal.

I couldn't see such a module.

Others say its up under the center dash where the heater vents are. I haven't looked there yet....

Any help on this matter is really appreciated!!!

Try this. Lock the the doors with the switch on the door panel and then close the door. Do your headlights flash once? If so, it does have remote entry.

Thanks for the reply.....

I called Ford Customer Care at 1-800-392-3673, gave them my VIN number. From the trailing numbers of the VIN number, the production code told them that the truck DOES NOT have remote keyless entry!!!!! GO FIGURE !!!!!

For all those others with the same related problem, or questions with what options came with their vehicle, call the Ford Customer Care Line....

Guess I will get an aftermarket Remote keyless entry system...someday....

Just as well, the remote entry doesn't really do much. You'll be better off with an aftermarket alarm. I have the remote entry, but installed an alarm for some extra protection.

If you performed the programming mode steps properly and didn't get a reaction from the door locks, then you don't have keyless entry. It was an option on that model, thus the mention in the owner's manual.

Nothing wrong with a good aftermarket system IF it's installed by someone who knows what they're doing.

Paul you may want to check and make sure you do infact have a anti-theft system. I had a 99 f-150 that flashed theft when the key was removed but it did not have an anti-theft system. There is a way to check this also, If memory serves correctly roll driver window down and turn truck off, get out and lock doors, reach thru window and open door, if alarm goes off then yes you have anti-theft, but if its like mine and horn doesn't alarm you don't have anti-theft.

The flashing THEFT light is part of the PATS system. That's the big square key with the chip in it, the truck may or may not have an additional anti-theft alarm.

Mine doesn't do that, and I have the keyless entry....

Mine does. Lights flash with first push of the lock button (key fob or door panel switch) and horn honks with the second push of the lock button on the key fob. Its to help you find your vehicle at night (lights) and verify that the doors locked (horn). It may be a model year difference, mine is a 2002. I thought they were all the same.

Well thanks, but no response with the anti-theft system. I recently bought a remote keyless entry system with alarm from a company offering it thru eBay for $25.00 plus $10.00 shipping.....

Thanks for all the input guys.......
