I have a 2000 Ranger. I bought it used and while it was loaded with every option, I didn't get any remotes with it. I didn't even know if it had factory keyless entry. After reading some other post, I followed the instructions to reprogram a remote in the vehicle as if I had one by turning the ignition key from off to run 8 times in 10 seconds and the doors cycled (locked then unlocked) as if waiting for the remote control transmission? Does this mean I have a RKE sending unit with no remotes? Thanks.
what you cold do is go to a ford dealer and tell then about how you bought the truck used and you have no remotes for the keyless entry. they should be able to sell you a couple remotes you can program. thats what i had to do when i bought my 2000 ranger used.
Yup, you've got RKE! You could go to the dealer and pay about $40 each for remotes, or just go on e-Bay- they are for sale there all the time. Do the same process (turn the key on and off 8 times), the doors lock and unlock, and then push any button on the remote. The doors will lock and unlock again, signalling that the remote is programmed. Press any button on the second remote right after that to program it, as well.
Here's another tip regarding RKE: Don't lock your keys in the truck while it's running thinking that you're gonna use the remote to open it up. It won't work! The remote cannot be used to open doors that have been locked while the motor is running. In that situation, you will need to stick an actual key into the door to unlock it.
