Does anyone know if it is possible to change out the CD Changer with one that will play MP3 CDs. Is that intelligence in the Dash Unit, or does the Changer have to be able to do it?
Had the same problem with my 99 Expy 6 cd unit last year-removed it from console and sold it on Ebay for $60 as "disfunctional". A repair shop bought it. I bought a comparable model on ebay for $100 that works great. Cost me $40 to fix my problem.

I've got a Kenwood 6-CD changer just sitting in my closet not being used. If someone knows the model number that works in the Expi's, I'll make a deal.

My CD quit working sometime ago. I had asked on this forum a while for some advice for a replacement.
Got a cost for the replacement equipment which was a little steep for me and decided that I would have to put it off for a while and just use my daughter's portable player with the cassette adapter/player.
Read this thread and since I had already pulled my CD changer I had second thoughts about spending the 450 plus for a replacement so I decided to rip mine apart, didn't think I could hurt it any worse. I cleaned the "glides" with rubbing alcohol, spun the black gear drive inside back and forth to work the extra grim out to clean it some more, put it back together, re-installed it just a few minutes ago and it worked like a charm!
Thanks for the help Mod, I'm given you a plug for the info!
Anyone seen the "Bad disk" message? It will cycle through each CD in the cartridge, pull it into the changer, and then flash that message and move to the next one till it has tried all of them.
Been contemplating tearing into it and seeing if it just needs a cleaning.
I just started getting the same message in my 2003 F350. I am going to take it in as I am pretty sure it will be a warranty fix. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
