I have a 97 expy XLT with the "premuim" stereo system (made by Clarion I believe) and the cd changer cartridge is stuck. The #1 cd is 1/2 engaged and it won't play (says "no cd" on the deck) or eject although I can hear and see it trying to do so. Any suggestions on how to get the cartridge out or removing the cd changer to get the cartridge out would be greatly appreciated as I am getting tired of radio. I have already tried removing the battery cable as a long shot.
the changer is easy to get out just take the side cover off, you'll see towards the front of the changer where the side cover folds, fold it and lift the under there is like 4 screw holding it in then it lilfts right out its connected by one plug in the front of the console. if you screw yours up and it cant be fixed i took mine out and went all aftermarket so i have a good one out of my 97 with the premium system, if your interested i can send you pics or whatever we can then work something out im sure
Like Triton stated it is very easy to remove the changer. Then you can take it apart yourself( I do not recommend) or you can do what I did and send it to a guy in California, sorry cant remember the company, to have it fixed. Check on ebay and he is always listed and I think he fixed mine for $90 plus shipping. Came back working great. Good luck.
What year models of Expy's have the CD Changer with the cartridges? Can anyone show me a picture of the changer and the cartidges? I may be able to help someone!
Triton54- If your cd changer is the type with the orange eject button then it's the one I'll need. If you are serious about getting rid of it then let me know. It looks like I'm gonna be in the market for one. It's either replace that one or go all aftermarket. If I had to spend $100+ to get the old one fixed I would rather just put a new deck in with a cd player in it. I can only listen to 1 cd at a time anyway (although 6 is nice).
I still have to get the $75 worth of cds out of the old one and I don't mind tearing it up getting them out if I have another one to drop in it's place.
