I've done the mod and was wondering if it would hurt if I drove 70 mph with the swicth on. I am looking to see if it increases milage. All I wanna do is turn it on while on the highway while driving normally. Is it ok?
It definately made a difference in performance, btw!
well first off.... what year truck do you have?? do you have gauges to monitor the engine (pyro, Trans temp, boost) if you have those and can monitor what's going on in there thrn you should be ok... i have the 5.6 on a switch too, but no gauges yet so I run it no longer that 5-10 sec for a brust of acceleration to pass someone.... just my .02... good luck
It's an 01 CC 2 wheel drive. I don't have any gauges yet. I'm not looking to floor it all nor tow until I have gauges. I guess what I am getting at is does anyone have the 5.6k or 10 kmod without a switch? I doubt it because the idle is horrible. Just looking to drive normally to see if milage goes up. Thanks!
Somewhere on this site, is a thread from someone with guages who did the 10k. He stated that the 10k was safe and wouldn't exceed the safe egt's. But he said it was close. He also stated that the increase in fuel psi going to the 5.6, would put you in the danger zone. Try searching for that thread. Believe him, or not. Thats a mighty big chance to take. I would get guages. Just my opinion.
While still thinking and saying its a good idea to have gauges before any mod'ing My personal experience with my 10k actually yields lower egt's while pulling. I don't know about 5.6k. I dont think you'll hurt any thing by running at 70 mph. With the 10k see a real slight increse in mpg. (maybe 1mpg). Thats only driving without a load, usally about 70 mph.
Wow, who in the world figured all of this out? Somebody really has be tinkering with their truck to have found this out. Is there nothing that you guys don't take apart and figure out how it works?
Well I have gauges in my truck and have run it wide open going up a hill for about 1-2 minuets and only saw about 850 to 900 on the pyrometer. The check engine light came on but I think that was because I was getting so much boost it read about 22 psi. Driving around town is fine, better fuel milage, but I can never seem to keep my foot out of it so im always getting gas. I would suggest getting gauges they make me feel much more comfortable when I drive there is no more question.
Is there anyone running this mod while stacked with a chip? Does this mean that adding the resistor mod won't be as pronounced if already using a chip? Cause even with my Diablo three position flip chip, elbeit this awoke the sleeping giant in my truck, I sure don't black smoke pouring out the pipe, she dumps when I honk on it a little, but nothing like some of the videos I've seen (other threads here), and those weren't highly modded trucks.
I put a switch on the pedal to turn off the 10k at idle. It's the best of both worlds, you get the 10k power plus the smooth idle of stock. I routed it all through a manual switch on the dash so I can disable while towing. I don't have guages yet so I don't want to take any chances. It's reported that the 10k mod is EGT safe even for towing, but I won't take any chances. I only run it empty.
I am running the switched 10k mod stacked with my SCMT and do not see a noticable increase in EGTs (slight mileage increase, though). I have turned in off while towing and did not see a change in temp. I do see high EGTs when full throttle, with or without the 10k "on". Have not been able make a full throttle run without "backin' out" of the pedal. I am planning to add a three position switch with a 5.6k (& my 10k) for a little extra "boost" when needed.
