How do these trucks breathe without the zoodad mod?

I did the zoodad mod today and while looking at the filter setup, how in the heck do these engines get any air without the zoodad mod? It's gotta be like the truck has asthma.

They struggle for breath stock, that's for sure. First week after I bought my truck I did the exhaust and the intake. It's been a labor of love ever since

Oh, the stock set up was enough to sustain life but never run a marathon. The 6637 and other like mods allow for a cross country marathon while towing a monster load.

LOL... I do keep after it, but there are cleaner out there. I bought the teflon tire treatment for the hoses and stuff, but I haven't put in on just yet. You should see how good it looks with that stuff applied!! I think Pete is the one who started using that stuff and shared it here.

The 6637 or 46637 is the part number you want. You can get it from Napa or O'Reillys for about $40-$50, or from FleetFilter.com for about $34 shipped (if you don't live in TX).

Look for the Kwik filter as well as 6637 on the 7point3.com. Ah what the heck.

I did the Zoodad mod today actually, .....heading to Home Depot in the morning to get some supplies to make a screen for it. Whole thing took me......15 minutes??? I also changed oil to Rotella 5w-40 synthetic today....quieter and smoother running already! Foil delete will happen tomorrow too! I have pics of my 6637 setup with 4" elbow piece in gallery, don't know how to post pictures here yet haha

Izzy351: I've been wondering about this for a long time but kept forgetting to ask. What is that half-round collar looking thing underneath the alternator in your picture? That's had me puzzled about my 2000 7.3 for quite some time!

Thanks in advance for a reply!

I'll take this one!!!

That "half-round collar looking thing" is actually the upper radiator hose bracket for a dual-alternator setup. The shatter of the single setup (that does not go AROUND the belt, but THROUGH it) is that if you ever need to change the accesory drive belt, you HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE UPPER RAD HOSE TO CHANGE IT. Get yourself down to NAPA and get the hose for the dual-alt. setup. That way, if you need to change the belt, you can do so without taking off the radiator hose!! I don't know retail cost, but jobber price is $8.63. Add about 35% to that. Less than $15 + half a gallon of coolant.

The dual alt hose is twice as long as the single alt hose....and its cheaper! The NAPA guy looked at em both and scratched his head at that one. Put a zip-tie around the hose at that little flange to keep it from rubbing.
