I wear Red Wings, they are saftey toes. No more steel, it's a composite now. These are my third pair, company requires them so they pay. They're comfortable and wear well, mine were garanteed for one year not to wearout. They're going on two years now. I've bought Iron Age, Leihigh, Wolverines, Cat, all were good boots. If you are on your feet alot, try the Red Wings they're designed to reduce fatigue.
Red Wings are great. I've worn them for over 20 years. I have to wear steel toes (teamster). They are the most comfortable work shoes with the most available options in my area (Milwaukee). If you like a tough-looking and tough-wearing work boot, Red-Wing is the choice for me. Soles do wear a bit, but you can have them re-soled and the uppers last forever. I have a pair of engineer boots going on 9 years and they're the most comfortable boots I own. I don't even wear socks! Skip the $30 or $50 you'd pay at the cheap stores and get yourself some real heavy-duty biscuits for your dogs!
Red Wings are a very good boot. I wear nothin but Danner boots for work and hunting. My new pair of work boots have gore- tex and Vibram duralogical soles and man do those sole make a difference. I am on concrete most of the time and my feet dont hurt at the end of the day and never wet in the rain or snow. The one thing I have always loved about Danners is they fit like a glove from day one and just get better from then on virtually no break in period.
I wear only wolverines with gor tex I do emergency road service for a large truck leasing company. I go from one extreme to the other. I get a year out of mine and there all i ever wear
I've had a pair of 2292's for 3 years and they're good once they break in. Also try http://www.westcoastshoe.com/wesco/ since they'll be my next pair once these are gone. I've worn them in 100+ weather (feet never sweat) and 10 degree weather (feet never cold) and through snow/water/mud. If it gets sub-zero (-20 plus), I'd consider another pair of boots (e.g. meant for extended periods of cold weather).
The best thing for any boots is a good pair of wool socks. If these are worn every day, get multiple socks and switch every day.
