Red wing boots?

I went boot shoppin and looked at a pair of red wing boots.
there comfy and i like the look but i cant see spending $189 on a pair of boots for work.(steel toe ). From what i've heard there pretty good. how many of you guys have red wings and how long do they last?
I work on tug boats so the boots go from one extream to another(oil, water, snow, and ice).

i work in the oilfield and am flatfooted, so my boots tend not to last long. redwing boots are WELL worth the price. they stand up to almost anything and lots of people (including me) have keep them well over a year. they are worth the price for comfort alone.

I had a pair of Red Wings and hated them, worst boot I ever wore. I like the Rockports, I don't know if they have a steel toe offered, I had steel toes that went over the outside. Only put them on when I needed them and I glued leather over and under them, for appearance and to protect the shoes. Steel toes can really tear up your feet and you can get frostbite if not careful. PS These were not Railroad worker steel toes.

Look into a pair of Matterhorns. I have 5 pair now, in a period of about 6 years. All but the first pair still look just almost new; the first pair have been severly abused, and while they are somewhat beat up on the outside, are just as comfortable as they were from day 1.

You can get cut and fire-resistant kevlar liners, steel cap toe, solid steel toe, steel plated bottoms, and there "Armadillo" metatarsal guard (like a steel toe that goes all the way up the tounge). Thier stuff is bulletproof (quite nearly literally) and I have had great luck with them.

Another thing you should do is get two pair of boots, and wear one pair then the other pair the next day. The boots will last lot longer, enough that it makes it more than worthwhile. Your feet will thank-you too.

I have been using red wings on the farm for 30 years. with all the mud grease crud they keep on going. I get about 4 years on a pair wearing them everyday. replace heals once per year.

I wear Red Wing work shoes (ankle height, unlined, no steel toe) virtually every single day of the year except for 2 weeks at the beach. They last me 3+ years. This is my 3rd pair in 10 years now. I oil them about every month or 2. I have no reason tro try any other shoe. I used to wear the "Pecos" style. They were a pull on cowboy style boot when I worked on the farm. I switched to the lace up shoe because they go better with shorts in the summer!

I had a pair of Red wings( Model EH??) that were very comfortable, the boots were well made and everything held together nicely. The only problem is that the sole wore out very fast. I would get them again if not for the soles. I think I bought them on sale for 110.00 bucks. Haven't had a comfortable boot since that last set.

Back when I lived in work boots, my Red Wings were my savior. They were worth every penny, especially because I could resole them. Take care of the uppers, and they'll last.

I had ones with soles that could stick even on finished concrete or tile with diesel and water on it. Almost twisted my knee at first because I was so used to pivoting/sliding on the ***** of my feet. I turned, the boots didn't.

The only substance that they slipped on was raw chicken slime dumped on an oily kitchen floor.

Red Wings...da best.

When I am home on the farm and not at school, its all I wear. Best place I have found to buy them is at a store that an Amish Man runs. A little hard to get to and a little out of the way, but well worth it in the price difference.

I bought a pair for one job that required steel toes, and they told me I would end up with burns on my feet wearing steel toes. So I used them at my other job at the time (restaruant), and they lasted me barely 30 days for $150. Several people told me I should have taken them back because they were just disintegrating. I would keep your receipt as a precaution!

Have worn Georgia's, Wolverine's, Danner's, and Red Wings. Keep the Danner's for hunting and the Red Wings for working. Have had the same pair of Danner's for 5-years, and the Red Wings 2. Have only re-soled the R.W.'s once. Yes they may wear a little quick, but as stated they stick to the floor well regardless of what you are standing on. The boots are like your truck. You take care of your truck, it will take care of you. The boots should be oiled at least once a month depending on your work environment. Again, just like your truck. Frequency of the oil change depends on the environment your truck is working in.
With all that said, I say go with the boot your foot says "AHHHHHHH" when you slide it in. Mine does with both my Danner's and the Red Wing's.
You get what you pay for.

the pair I wear now just replaced a pair that I had worn for five years. replaced the sole after about three years wore till the leather started to seperate from me oiling it like I should have. Just got a new pair of the model. and love them all over again. I probably wear mine 15 hours a day at least 5 days a week. So they get used a lot.

I've worn Red Wings for many years and they are high quality. My only complaint is they discontinued my favorite steel toe pull-on. The boot meant to replace it is not offered in my size width and I don't like the heel style.

FWIW, I believe that steel toes were invented by Torqemada during the inquisition...
