all of you know its a federal law to keep CAT on your vehicales, even though you may not need emissions testing. I got fined last year for not having one on my 64 nova and i never had emissions done before. (random exhaust check on street) $280 ticket + fixing it.
'64 Nova? Cats weren't required until late 70's... You got ripped or something.
It depends where you live. We have two vehicles with no cats, and they both passed safety.
im sorry, 74. it needs one. i tried to fight ticket, but judge said all vehicals are required to have one. its a federal law. you can not alter or remove cat anywhere in US.
New Mexico doesn't even do inspections. Does this mean I still have to have cats?
Michelle's Gottaford.
Federal law. You have to have cats, but a lot of people have gutted them or completely taken them off because their states don't do inspections. I know I live in OK and we don't have inspections so I gutted my cat, and I am about to run a straight pipe through there.
why not just put your cat back on? you are not going to gain much power if any and your truck will stink. or just buy a high flow cat if you think it is robbing you of power.
Yep, federal. I removed both on my 93, but I plan on adding a hi-flow one....see, I care about the environment
If you mow your yard, your putting more polution out than your truck probably is.
Just as a sidenote - One hour of mowing your lawn with a typical lawn mower puts out enough polution to equivelate driving 3400 miles (car with cat). Also gasoline being evaporated is a major polution too. It's estimated that 17 million gallons of fuel are spilled each year just from filling up outdoor equip.
