Cut off the Cat

Cut off the Cat
Seen a few posts lately about Cats.
And I got Curious.
My 1992 F150 5.0 4x4 was neutered by a local muffler shop.
The cat was trash, and they gave me the option of replacing it, or running with out it.
I opted for no cat.
I am 100% positive that they made no further adjustments, they simply got rid of the cat.
Should I be doing something to compensate for not having a cat?
TIA

As long as your truck is 95 or older ie pre 96 then it is fine. If you have California emissions this might be different. Basically if there is only one O2 before the cats then it is fine. If there is an O2 after the cats, it won't work properly without them. EEC-IV or OBD-I is ok but OBD-II will not like this. There are a lot of 5.0 Mustang, Camero, Firebird, etc guys that remove them for street/strip or just strip use. Most likely your truck will run better with out the cat(s).

Removing the cat may or may not be illegal in your state/county, however it is against FEDERAL law in the USA. You don't want to know the fine, or the imprisonment term either, not that it's enforced on a federal level at all. But the consequences are steep and on the books.
Personally, I'd replace the cat, only because if everyone removed it our landscape would smell like NYC or LA. It doesn't hurt anything to have it, except your wallet every 8-10 years.
Not having a cat doesn't effect your EFI system at all, because the O2 sensor is before the cat anyway (in your case, some of the newer trucks have two 02 sensors, one before, one after the cat, and in that case you must have it for it to work properly and not spit codes).
