Question Effect on emissions pre-cat

1988 F-150. OBD I .

The pre-cat only effects emissions during startup until the the main Cat is hot enough to start doing its job right?

We have smog testing here but it is always performed on a vehicle at normal operating temperatures. If I eliminate the pre-cat and replace it with a new Y-pipe with O2 sensor bung and a 3 way Cat downstream, then my emissions readings should remain close to what they are now. Am I dreaming?

That will work...the thing is, some places check and want the factory amount of cats down there (ie: they want to see 2 cats down there.) Some places dont care and just check tailpipe emmision.

Ok thanks

Our program here does check to see if a cat is in place by using a mirror but they aren't keeping track of how many it should have just that one is there. then they check the tailpipe emissions of course.
