I have an annoying problem with the door ajar light staying on that Ford and ($500) has not been able to fix.
Has anyone else been plagued with this problem? symptoms are that the light stays on after startup (doors closed) and usually does this when the outdoor temperature is above 50 degrees.
I believe the problem may be associated with the rear doors. Does anyone know where the sensors are located in the rear?
Ford replaced the entire "module" and still the problem persists.
I have found that the Door Ajar light staying on occurs when ever it rains. Temperature doesn't seem to matter. I'll try the WD -40 in the latch trick to see if that works.
I am now experiencing this same problem. I will try WD-40 as well. I am just not sure which door is the cause and the wife drives the EX every day but she now knows to keep an eye on which door causes the problem, if she can. At one point during the day all fours are used.
It is very hard to tell which door is causing the problem. Just lube them one at a time and when the light goes out you have found the culprit. When I did mine it was of course the last door I lubed but a little lube doesn't hurt the others.
The problem I had with mine was just the opposite. When I would open the drivers door the light would not come on. I tried the WD-40 but it did not work. So I decided to take the switch out. In order to do that you remove the door panel then reach your arm up into the door where the switch is and push up and twist a quarter of a turn. You will probably need to remove the wire going into the switch. When I got it out it became obvious why I was having the problem. The little *** on the side of the switch that holds it in when twisted was wore down to where It would not hold it up any more. Bought a new switch for about $13 put it in now its good, no more problem. This may not help in this situation but it may help somewhere down the road.
It all helps and even more so for the ones reading this. They will recall this thread when thry do have a problem. I will lube the latches as soon as I get a chance and get back with the outcome.
I just went out and sprayed some lube in the door latches and it's the drivers door that is sticking on. The lights will go out on the other doors with in a few seconds when they are opend and close but the drover side stays on for a while.
I will give the lube some time to sit and hope it works.
Had the annoying problem with the passenger side door ajar and interior lights will not go out. Ford Dealer says a new switch replacement costs $160. Too much, pulled the fuse. NOTE: WD-40 does not fix the problem.
Read responses on this site and tried electrical contact cleaner from Radio Shack ($9.95 spray can). Throughly cleaned the door latch mechanism from the outside with the spray, paper towel and q-tips. Fifteen minutes spent on both doors.
The lights are out and work as intended! Plan to check and clean as needed. Lots of road gunk gets into the door lock mechanism.
Thanks to FTE! Sorry, no $ left, just had a $1K charge for new injectors and motor mounts on my car.
