First off, I have a 2000 X. Has anyone had any problems with the door ajar light staying on along with the interior lights? I think the problem is coming from the rear hatch not closing all the way or the sensors thinking that the rear hatch is not closed. Where are the sensors located on the rear hatch or for the doors for that matter? I was looking for an old style pin switch, but no luck. Any and all help greatly appreciated.
Ironically,I had the same problem this weekend after I washed my 2000X. I had just installed the MCST and was running the lowest setting for a couple of days and since I had never had this problem before I thought maybe that had something to do with it. I changed the setting to the 90hp setting and have had no more trouble. I don't know what the deal was, maybe I got something wet or maybe it was the chip. I could not find the sensor as well so I will be watching for replys. Good Luck
The door ajar swith is located on the door latch mechanism. I have not had problem with my X. But my 99 F250, and many of my freinds with trucks have had the door ajar problem. I would try to lube the latch good first, then check with the dealer.
I was talking with a Ford mechanic over the weekend who parked right next to me with his Excursion. He warned me about this same problem could possibly happen to me as it did to him. He showed me how Ford skimped on their costs and instead of putting in the standard spring loaded button, opted for a different setup. He mentioned to me about putting in some shims between the door and the body to help keep the light off.
I have found it happening to me and 100% of the time it is due to the rear hatch not being shut all the way. The rear hatch needs to be closed pretty hard to seal it shut. if not the light stays on.
The problem may be that you aren't closing the back two doors or the hatch good enough. On our 00 X we were experiencing this and have to make sure we slam the 3 back doors or else the dome lights stay on and the dash light
I just had this problem with my 00 X this weekend. I slammed every door on the truck and the dang light stayed on. I got like 10 miles down the road and it just went out. Hasnt done it since though.... I will lube mine tomorrow as well!!
I had the same problem, it was my rear hatch...I used swamp cooler oil enstead of wd40, the swamp cooler oil is water resistant and won't dry out over time like the wd40. Haven't had the problem sinse.
I have a 98 Expy and I started having the dome light on issue at about 3pm. I read this forum and 2 minutes and $3.00 later I was back in business. I just got a can of WD40 and sprayed it directly into the door catch and it worked. Thanks
