door ajar sensor stuck

99 ford ranger XLT...my door ajar sensor in the door stays on, therefore keeping the interior dome light on. The only cure I've found so far is 1) pull the fuse; or 2) spray contact cleaner in the lock. Anyone else run into this problem and have a more permanent solution?

Welcome to FTE!

Well known problem with Rangers. I think most everyone has has this problem. WD-40 or Contact cleaner works the best. Just spray a liberal amount into the door lock and slam the door a couple of times. Repeat every couple of months.

Only "permanent" solutions that I've heard of are 1) replace the switch in the door- That is a real pain to do and 2) cut the wires to the switch- I think that WXboy did that and could give you details. You can do a search within this site on the topic to get more of the posts listed on this subject

IF my '03 starts doing it this winter, I swear I will kick the door in. Why on Earth Ford hasn't corrected a COMMON problem they've had with the truck since 1995 I have no clue.
