Door Ajar Light on Dash

The door ajar light on my 2002 6.8 will not shut off. When I lock the truck the interior lights stay on as if a door was open. I did a search but did not seeany similar info. Has anyone had this problem? What controls the door ajar light. I did not see a button inside the door jam....HELP!

I think it has something to do with the rear lift gate also. It started acting up when I had the rear doors open. I cannot figure out what controls the lights though. There is not a switch.

The switch is part of the latch. I had been fighting a similar problem on a late model Taurus and solved the problem by spraying a spray lube in all the latch assemblies. I found the suggestion on another forum and didnt give it much of a chance. But it did work.

While the vehicles are different, Ford isnt going to have that big of a change in processes. It is at least worth a shot.

On the rear hatch and barn doors, isn't the tabs on the bottoms of the doors and the sides of the hatch what reads the door ajar? I thought the switch that was inside the door latch was on the four passenger doors... maybe I'm mistaken though.

Well, I don't think it would hurt to lube up those rear latches as I had mine stick in the open mode for a while til the lube finally freed the return catch. That back end get more dust and grime than anywhere else.

Nope, the the door ajar switches are on the liftgate. One on each side. If you want to spray WD40 in them use the outside most weep holes. If you want to figure outfor sure which switch is gummed up and sticking. Wait till all of your lights go off then open a door. If the lights DON'T come on you found the one. Start with the lift gate as it is the most common. It collects dust.

I pulled mine out and worked graghite (dry lube) into them and have had no problem for years.

A little off, but if your liftgate latch quits working you can pull the trim off around the inside and stick a big phillips head screwdriver through a 3/8" hole and spray WD 40 with the red tube on it while freeing the mechanism. And yes, spray the heck out of all the latches. You can also use brake parts cleaner with the tube for an oil free clean up job.

What are those receptacles on both sides of the lift gate about 4" up from the latches? Are those the switches for the interior lights?

my problem is usually the rear barn doors with the window. I used a good shot of WD-40 on all doors and locks. never had the problem again.

I tried the WD40 on the latches and I still have the problem. There is male tabs and female receivers on every door and door jam....what are these for? I think these may have something to do with the Door Ajar system....
