I crawled under my 03 F350 this weekend. I found my down pipe is insulated. Is this the pipe that is crushed and should be changed out?

I looked on MotorHaven and they only have the 4’ down pipe I have been reading that I should run the 3.5 to keep the back pressure. What is a good brand to stay with? I am also installing my gauges and need a spot to mount the sensor. Do any after market one already have the sensor mounting hole? And is this the best place to mount it?
The insulation reduces the turbo whine. It will get noticeably louder when you change it out to either size. IMO the 4" is just fine and the backpressure statements are false when they are talking about post turbo. Make sure when you change this downpipe out that you get one with a resonator in it or you will vibrate yourself out of the seat at around 1600 rpms. In 04 they changed to a different turbo that eliminated the need for this piece in the downpipe.
Welcome bralos....
You can see the crush portion from the top passenger side....
and it will help tremendously !
I know - it did mine...
the stock versus my 3.5 DP looked like a soda straw next tot he Alaska pipeline !!!
I went with a Magnaflow turbo back exhaust with a 3.5 downpipe with 4 in. all the way back. The downpipe doesn't have a resonator and the floor vibrates a bit but I got used to it so it isn't noticeable now. The whistle is loud at take off but settles down cruising and the exhaust has a nice rumble to it.

I bought the Banks for my '03 6.0 and love it. 4" all the way with a resonator in the DP. Very slight increase in turbo whine, dropped the temp 200-250 degrees across the board, retaining the stock cat. Great when towing. No matter what you buy, try to find a lift or pit to use to install. Took me 3 hours with a pit, air tools and 2 friends. Good luck.
Talk to banks I think they have a down pipe with the resonator.
Every manufacturer should have one with a resonator. Just make sure they do if you have one in the stock DP because it will not be a nice sound if you get one without it.
