JB, Take it to the dealer and have them do the fix.
I just had my Q pad removed by the dealer today. The pad was not replaced. They just cleaned the area and painted this area with a thick black rubberized corrosion paint. They claim this will resolve the vibration problem and prevent future corrosion.
I am planning to take mine in in the next couple of weeks for the "program," I will also be inquiring about the rear door on my Scab...the ripplng has officially become unbearable, and at 27K, I figure I better act soon. I will check my bumper as well, thanks Jim.
I think the problem is where the tail light is, not in the bed. They would be able to see rust after the take the whatever
I can assure that you will be able to see the rust problem if you get it. It's probably not going to happen under the tail light, it's going to be right there on the side of the bed. It will look like a paint bubble. I should know, I've had mine "fixed" 6 times for the same problem.
I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the problem was coming back, and just received my letter this week.
I think I might hold off on this until I have to take the vehicle in for something else. I hate going to my dealer for anything.
maybe i'll try taking this pad off myself--if I even have it...
I would gess cost these pads are not cheap. IN testing in certen condision marbe right ouater panel made noise (vibrated) there who knows.go ahead take it off pads are brital when cold soft when hot take it off cold it shood be easer. use 3 inch wide pudy knife dont scratch through primer . 3m makes a ruberised under coat that is verry good .
i thought that the letter said that they would apply the coating and then put the pad back on.
so would only putting the rubber coating on do the same thing?
it shood be fine IF it is put on right . it needs it be clean and dry to work right.2 or three coats of rubber coating proprely applied will be about the same.

one more quick question. I took a look at the area, from underneath, the pad in question is the rectangular thing that's about 12x18", correct?
just wanted to say I armed myself with a flash light and a 3" metal putty knife this afternoon, and was sucessfully able to take that damned pad off.
thank you cbreit, you were very helpful. I picked a semi cold day, and the pad was very easy to come off. I had a flash light shining on it for a short time and I could feel a noticable difference in how much harder the pad was to pick off as the area warmed up under the light.
for those of you curious what the pad is made out of, it looks like a big square piece of Grace Ice&Water Shield, with aluminum foil on one side.

This may be a dumb question but when did they stop putting the pads on there? Does it say in the letter. I am asking because i am picking up my 05 this week.
