Hey guys, my 94 XLT 4x4 pwr steering was sloppy and had a front end wobble. At 171,000 miles the radius arm bushings were replaced (they were shot) and my mechanic suggested replacing the steering box, as it was worn as well.
To save me money he used a carquest reman box. In the begining the steering was nice and tight(as is to be expected) but I noted that he center point hadn't worn in, so I could have the wheel turned up to a 1/4 turn and it wouldn't straghten itself out. Soon it started leaking fluid. I tracked the fluid leak down to the adjustment nut on the top of the box, tighttened it, no more leak.
BUT now at 175,000 miles the box is still tight and still won't straighten itslef out. I'm constantly having to correct, recorrect, re-recorrect as i try and track straight down the road.
Is this a defective box, or should it need further breaking in OR should it be adjusted?
