I adjusted the steering box preload today. Turned the whole thing about 120* and now the steering is much more tolerable. No more cranking the steering wheel halfway around just to correct on the freeway No binding, not too tight, world of difference.
Anyway, whenever I loosened the lock nut a small amount of fluid would start to leak from under it (which answered my question as to why the steering box looked oily.) Should I be worried? It didn't appear to leak once it was tightened back up...
No, it's only normal the fluid will come out if the adjusting nut is loose, once you finish the adjustment, if you did it right there should be no leaks there. I'm curious, which tools did you use to adjust the screw?.

Good to hear. 5/8" box end wrench on the lock nut, 5/32" Allen wrench on the nut itself. Assuming your steering box is the same.
did you have to remove the pitman arm? did you feel the tension increase as you tightened the adjustment nut? i wanna adjust my steering box since my truck is the same way (it looks like im making a 3 point turn when i try to change lanes)

Nope, nothing had to come off. I did however find out it's easiest to get a breaker bar on the lock nut through the driver's side wheel well. Everything you need to get at is just on top of the steering box.
