Supercharger for '99-'04 5.4L ???

Greetings one and all from the SD/HD forum:

A handful of us are wondering if you guys could help us out... Some of us with the '99-'04 F-250 Super Duty's with the 5.4L gasser are (gee, what a suprise!), looking for more "umph". Okay, okay... I hear all the snickering: "shoulda got the V-10 for $600 more", or "why the heck didn't you just get the 6.0L diesel?". Well, we didn't.. and we don't! So, now we're searching for ways to pack more punch with our 5.4's. We've all thrown good money at bad upgrades (ie, programmers, exhaust, cold air intakes, ad nauseum). But, for the $1,000's spent, the R.O.I. (return on investment) is but a paunltry few horsepower. So, here we are: begging mercifully for your expertise and insight (was that pathetic, or what???!)

What is/are the best supercharger(s) for the '99-'04 5.4L motor? Does the amount of mileage a motor has on it have an impact on whether or not one should add a supercharger? What are the pro's and con's of the different types of superchargers? What additional expenses will one incur, over and above the cost of the supercharger kit and installation? Will any modifications be required with the various manufacturers?

You know, that ol' chestnut!!!

Thanks Supercharger Forum!!!!!!

Best,
Daryl

If you don't mind can I ask a few questions.
1. How many miles did you have on yours when you put it on.

2. Did you do it yourself and was it very difficult.

3. Do you tow with yours and is the power there from low to high RPM's.

4. What made you go with Kenne Bell as opposed to the others?

I know that's a bunch of questions but it's also a big purchase and I am trying to make the best decision I can. I will say that out of looking at several I am leaning towards Kenne Bell. Thanks for helping out!

You may want to check with the factory. I did about 6 months ago and the folks at Kenne Bell said the 5.4l in the F-150 and F-250 were set up differently and they had nothing for our motor at that time. A lot could have happened since then though!

2. Yes, I planned well but it took about 18 hours.
3. Yes, the power is there from idle to the top.
4. From a personal view, superchargers shouldn't be hung off to the side of the engine with eight feet of belt. From a scientific view, they have the best adibatic (therman)efficency.

Let me go look up the thread with my experience and I'll add it to me edit.

[Edit] It appears my post is missing, I guess they're pruning threads.

hkiefus, thanks for the reply. It's been tough to get any replies on this subject. Seems that not many people stick on a supercharger. One more question, have you had any problems (broken belts) with it at all. Thanks again.

Superrangerman--save your pennies--they run anywhere from 3000 up.

No problems at all after getting the initial bugs worked out. I wish that other thread of mine hadn't disappeared as it was a good chronology of my experience.

Ah ha! Here it is: http://www.fordtrucks.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=175846

Read and enjoy!

You know BD, it was a while after I moved to Indiana that I learned about a town called Batesville Indiana where the town's 'company' was basically a casket maker. How surprised I was to be driveing up through your part of the country (after a fishing trip in LA) and seeing your home town where there is, a, Batesville Casket. Is that a requirement for the company's operations centers?

I've been here about a year and I always figured that the casket company was named for town here, low and behold I found out that it is named for the town in Indiana where the company started. I was camping over in Arkansas and drove through a Batesville over there, who know's, there might be a casket company over there! If you are ever back this way stop in the Outlet Mall and go to the Wrangler/Lee store and ask for the manager, I'll come out and sell you some pants! Just look for the Big Red F-250 in the lot.

Sweet deal BD! 68 Don't believe everything you read. Those guys are a top quality outfit but are a tad bit slanted to a specific manufacturer. But wait, so am I! Then again, I'm not making any money from it.
