Ok, installing my remote keyless entry/alarm/remote start that I got for my birth day, it seems a wire was crossed or something of the sort, now I have several odd operating devices. First thing noticed was my dome lamp and door chime, when the dor is opened, they flash and ding, not continuous like it should be. Next I have several devices that don't work period, at least until I stumbled upon a weird occurance. Power windows don't function, windshield wipers don't function, and my speedometer flutuates back and forth 5 mph. As for the stranger occurance, if I press my power lock switch(either direction), power windows operate, windshield wipers operate and speedo steadies itself, if I'm not wearing my seat belt, the dasboard indicator lights up too. I'm personally leaning towards a messed up GEM, but if it is something cheaper, I wanna know before I spend $367 on. Thanx in advance for any information you can provide me.
Maybe a bad ground, or ground fault? Since everything is connected to the computer, a crossed wire or ground fault could confuse it, and possibly cause the wierd occurance.
Do as JRK suggests, start over...I realize it is a pain, but it is the best remedy short of being able to diagnose it yourself with a wiring diagram if you are not familiar with it.
Thanks for the input guys, I tried that, both by removing the power leads to the unit, then by disconnecting the entire thing to no avail. My father is helping me with this and we downloaded the wiring diagrams and some troubleshooting guides at the motorcraft website.. My dad is determined there's a floating ground somewhere(he hates the idea of spending $400+ on a new GEM), but by the first trouble shooting test I performed, I believe it's the GEM, just gonna have to wait on buying my stacks and get that thing I guess.
