"FAIRLANE concept"
BUT it is one of the most impressive cars I have ever driven, fantastic dynamics, good power huge interior space.
Also the fairlane in Australia has always been a long wheel base luxury sedan, so yes I feel it is worthy of the name "fairlane".

it ain't no fairlane and it won't be no fairlane, only when ford stops fooling arround and make some cars then they will be ready to make money and preserve the glory of yesterday.
i kinda like the new GTO, i just used that to show where these silly cars are comming from.
i personally love Aussies, but i think on the fairlane subject bra ,we are so not getting along, just stop and think about this, FAIRLANE.
I THINK OF IT LIKE THIS , WHY HONOR GREATNESS BU BUILDING A MOMUMENT WIT CRAPP?
why don't you go on to the fairlane websites and post that g220 mkII picture and here how they feel.... goodluck !

Ford US stopped selling the Fairlane, then the Fairlane was piggy backed onto the Australian Falcon, and was the LWB version of the Falcon.
No it prehaps doesn't have the same respect as a US Fairlane, but Ford US dropped the Fairlane name (I am just as upset about that as you are), and Ford Australia is the only one to keep the ball rolling.
Irrespective of what you think is a Fairlane, THIS IS a true Fairlane, has been, always will be, and it has far more history than a car that was only manufactured for 8 years.
In regard to money, Ford Australia made US 320million last year, so someone is making money... Even if they are selling "KIA's"

If you ever drove one of our cars I think you would be impressed.
Where in the Ford world can you get a factory 389hp V8 in a 4 door?

Only in Australia.

Whether you like the styling or not is a matter of personal taste, I can't say that I've see a Ford car outside of the Mustang here that I've liked since 1972. The Contour , Taurus and 500 are hardly styling gems to me.
bigf350 ,i have driven holdens and stuff growing up in Rhodesia so i have driven aussy cars, but i would'nt call my morris minor a fairlane simply because it pulls 365 hp and has a v6 bmw motor, the fairlane goes futher than the big engine , it's appearence was much of a factor in the fairlane too.
i will throw rocks at every one of those g220 mkII WHERE EVER I SEE THEM, hood dents and smashed windshelds will become part of the styling thanks to a disgruntled ford man.

(Bailiff - see that those Hari Krishnas are removed)
Persuant to accepted definitions -
It is NOT a car, therefore it can NOT be a "Fairlane".
~So ruled.
*bangs gavel*
NEXT case please...

The Aussie Fairlane has been manufactured for 38years.
Which vehicle should rightly use the name?
The Fairlane has been a symbol of luxury, performance and refinement for those 38years, the pinicle in Australian motoring, one that is accessable to the everyday man.
This car has been Ford Australias attempt at showing the world (BMW, Mercedes etc.) what it is capable of, and proving that you don't have to pay ridiculous sums of money for a really good luxury car.
Yes it is different in concept to the US Fairlane, but it is an equally good concept in my opinion, and has every right, possibly even more right, to wear the name.

Even so, "our" Fairlane has been produced for twice as long as the US Fairlane.
Yes Ford was born in Detroit in 1903, BUT
Ford US gave up on the nameplate, Ford Australia have persisted with it for far longer, yes they can decide what vehicle uses the name, and what doesn't, but "our" Fairlane has equal right to the name plate.
Plus, our Fairlane can come with a 300hp V8, if thats not spiritually closer to a 352 Fairlane Thunderbird V8 than anything that Ford US offers I don't know what is.
I think we all agree that this Fairlane concept is a POS.
However "our" Fairlane, while it doesn't have the great classic looks of its US brethren (I will agree, I think it is ugly) it is closer to the original Fairlane than anything that has come out of Ford US's factories in the past 30 years, no its not avialable in a 2 door (thats because it wouldn't sell here, they tried that in 1973), but if you think about it, a V8 engine, 300hp, large car, the ability to cruise a whole continent in a lap of luxury, a car that people genuinely aspire to own, it has far more right to the Fairlane plate than this MPV, or anything Ford US produces.
Here are some better looking Australian Fairlanes

The XC is my personal favorite (my father used to own one...)
in, name ,form and craftsmanship, then the Aussies can work from that to come up with Aussy fairlane. the seriousness of this flop is that all the KIA drivers will buy this thing $$$ cause it's cheap then this thing becomes perminant on the roads because it's selling then fairlane dies for real now.
look at the new monte carlos ,impalas, cadillacs, don't you see yesterday in them,it's not like they just took the most common shape out of the wind tunnel and stuck the name on it, instead you can see how much they got creative the common wind tunnel shape in oder to stay true to the old cars we know and love.
bro if you wana show me a new fairlane you're gonna have to try way harder than that crapp.theres absolutely no effort to use anything fairlane on these things, not the grill look, not the sporty stylish look, not even a hint of muscle .
