There is also a Fairlane drive in Dearborn, where Fords Customer Service Division is located if I remember correctly.

In regard to the Fairlane being an icon, it is held as an icon in Australia, and at around $US50000 for the entry model its not exactly KIA pricing...
While it may not be the best looking car, it has a presence in Australia like few other cars (Our Prime Minister is chauffered in one for example).
It is considered a symbol of wealth and class, and a symbol of support for Australia.

I will admit its not a Thunderbolt Fairlane, but you have to remember that most of the Fairlanes produced weren't fitted with 427's and most of the popular ones didn't have bonnet bulges.

The original 1955 Fairlane was designed as a luxury version on the Full size Ford Falcon.
"Our" Fairlane always has been, and still is based on "our" Falcon.
It was NEVER originally designed as a muscle car, the fact that it was fitted with bonnet scoops, and huge engines was merely a by product of the muscle car era, and Ford needed to compete in it, and the Fairlane was orginally chosen as the vehicle of choice - incorrecty IMO.

It was Ford US that lost the plot with the Fairlane, it was designed as a Large luxury car, bonnet scoops and drag racing engines were wasted on it.
Admittedly while this did create quite a reputation for the Fairlane, it is most likely why the US Fairlane died.
The Torino was a muscle car, the Fairlane, like Henry's mansion was designed for luxury.
If the Fairlane had stayed true to its original design, you guys would probably be still be able to buy a REAL Fairlane in the US.

Having said that a 1965 427 Thunderbolt Fairlane, a 1966 GTA Fairlane Convertible, or a 1969 428 Fairlane Cobra Fastback are some of my favorite Fords, and I look upon them with fondness, but were they TRUE Fairlanes designed with the same thoughts that created the original?

"Our" Fairlane follows the original tradition - and hence why it still survives to this day.

Jenral said it right!!i wana put together parts of cars we see today to make a nice fairlane that stays true to it's roots... ok, take the back end of the volvo A60 with the lines tale lights , back window and stance together with the same lines we see on the new caddilac roadster from the side and the front and some majic to the grill and lights.
personally i am glad this Aussy fairlane won't be driving down my street anytime soon and it sucks , where is the difference in the Aussy fairlane.it looks like a honda element, stratass, kia, what what.Bigf350 i don't see why you can't overstand that these new fairlanes just don't deserve to carry the tittle for every reason. you'll never sell this tale to anyone i know !
tell the Aussies the Americans don't approve of there fairlane.

I'm not sure where you see the yesterday in the new Monte and Impala. Both are front wheel drive, the Impala has triangle tail lights (not the three tail lights like on the oldies). I think both are fine cars and i think it will be interesting to see how the new Impala can handle its new powerplant whlie remaining front wheel drive. But its inevitable for styles to change. I think Ford would be making a huge mistake to try and resurect the US Fairlane into a crossover. Once a car, always a car. They'll bring it back eventually though. Afterall, theres only so many F-names to go around .

DAUNTLESS808 I see the yesterday in the monte and impala in the styling although they may have gone low budjet on some stuff but them cars definately represent the old cars well.
tune into the speed channel , the grand-am cup is on, then you'll see how i mean by seeing the yesterday in todays cars, the 05 mustang GT definately gets my seal of approval as a representetive of the the old, it's got the shape ,the form, and the blood of a HORSE .

you said Melborne, my home girl lives there, Semone maynard, she's one of the top artists and she works with tinny dots to come up with the most realistic pictures. John Major also has a big sculpture gallery arround there too,i met him in Zimbabwe in the late 90's, he has my work in his private collection.
hey the guys i got in southern africa searching for cars for me emailed a pic of a 1972 ford fairlane they found for sale and i just thought of you cause the american fairlane never got that far ,it was the torino in 72, the thing looks like a torino somewhat.

I do recall the name John Major, I think I may have been to his gallery at some stage, can't recall that well though.

Is the Fairlane a 2 door or a 4 door?
Remember South Africa is RHD, so it could be a Aussie Fairlane.
Did it look anything like these 2?

it looks like the burgandy one not the green one. also the second link won't show (page can't be found) i know for sure that almost all the american cars in southern africa were made RHD and most were made by south african ford or you guys.
john major was u'r guys prez at some point, you gotta like a polititian that goes from politics to art.
the deal with the old school AUSSY fairlanes is that they never strayed away from the original USA styling and power, so one can say that the old Aussy fairlanes were true fairlanes unlike the new generation that jumped onto the honda ,kia line.

Thumbs down

Looks like the Honda Element. One version of the rangey rover also has that same "industrial lunch box wind tunnel tech" look. Where the hell do these (edite it myself) designers go to school??? Is there some new world order in design school? Call me a doctor---i think I'm going to loose my cookies.
WTH, have they have lost their brains? Excuse me, did they ever have any?
I'd rather drive an AMX Pacer than buy one of those style things.

It was. The race was pretty darn good for F1.
I am still deaf from it though...
