1986 F150 turns over , but will not start.

I have a 1986 Ford F150 ( 302, 5.0 Litre ) which will not start. It turns over very well. I have spark. I also have gas reaching the injectors. I checked the Ignition On Engine Off computer codes and they were all normal. I changed the distributor mounted Ignition Control Module. I changed the plugs and wires. I checked the distributor cap and rotor and both looked OK. I also checked to make sure injectors had 12 volts going to them. The engines rpm’s go up just a little when I push the accelerator to the floor and then try to start the truck. It will still not start. Could I please get some Help.

How many Miles on it?

I did a set of timing gears and chain on an 86 302 last year
with 300,000 Km (180,000 Miles )on it.

The chain was SO LOOSE It had 45* of play.

A couple of other things to look at and consider...One is the voltage output of your battery. Some of the computer systems won't send the right signal to the engine unless it has at least 13 volts of cranking power...I had that happen on a car this last summer

Another is the intake and exhaust...are you getting air in and are you sure the exhaust is clear...My neighbor's truck wouldn't start until he finally removed the cat... the cat had imploded and plugged the exhaust

Thanks for the ideas. My truck has 150,000 km on it. I will have to check the timing chain and see if that is my problem. I hope I don't have a cat problem even though that would be a easier fix.

I had a similiar problem with my 86. It would turn over and had spark would never start. I turned out that the fual shut-off switch located under the passenger side dash went bad and caused my fuel to be completely shutoff. I replaced it and the truck starts and runs perfectly.

Hello. Did u check the enirtia switch behind the kick panel. Thats the switch that trips in and accident and shuts off the fuel pump. And if u are getting fuel is the pressure correct. Also in the distributor, maybe u need to replace the pick-up coil. I had and 84 Merc that had drivability problems, and they found a intermittent pick-up coil.

Did you pressure test the fuel system or did you just check to see if the injectors were firing? do you smell fuel like the engine is flooding? it is possible you are not getting any fuel, or the other is maybe the injectors are leaking down and flooding the engine. or a third possibility is that your pressure regulator is shot and not getting enough pressure to the injectors.

I am having the same problem too, Please help!! This is a new engine build. Fuel line is pressurizing and holding pressure. Spark is sparking at spark plug. Timing was set as close as I could and i tried moving it while starting and no gain. What should i try next. A few things that I dont think could be stopping a kick off but may. no vacuum line to map sensor, spout line to TFI not connected.
I heard to leave the spout line disconnected when setting timing and I need to buy hose for map. I am hooking up the map tonight.

Since you are getting spark, give the inlet a shot of starting fluid if the engine kicks then you know it is a fueling issue, if not then it is a valve timing or ignition timing issue.
