Jacking up engine

I just got my oil pan partially down and loosened the motor mounts where do I jack up the engine from???

I will be using a block of wood on my jack to prevent damage to the metal.

Do I jack it up by the torque converter???

When I took my pan off two years ago Christmas ('89 shorty 3.0l AT), I had to jack up the engine about 1.5 inches to get the pan to clear the crossmember. I used a block of wood on the bottom of the harmonic balancer, and jacked against that. Worked perfectly. Watch the fan blades, you go any higher, you might break one. I carefully bent mine while jacking, and didn't loosen the fan shroud, but YMMV.

Regards,
Al S.

whoh.. by the harmonic balancer? wouldn't that warp the crankshaft? i don't know if it will... but that thought scares me!

It won't warp it if the engine is cool and you are only lifting the engine and not the whole vehicle then it would be trouble.
