they both worked for the dl&w and erie rail roads then co captained a ocean tug bringing coal up the coast from va. the first tugs i rode on with them where steam and later diesels. what a ride for a young kid back in the early 50's
There's something about tugs that once you've ridden on one, you never forget it.
captchas: Sounds like an old beauty and I guess you know now why you should have held onto her .
There is still no boat that will ride like the wooden ones .
The old boat builders on The Bay I live on used to actually design the hulls for
the length of the trough between the waves in each geographic location on the bay so there were 4 or 5 different lengths between the bow and where the hull flattened out so there was no slap or chop when riding the rough water .
Those days as well as those designs are now long gone and they punch the tupperware boats all from the same molds like cookies or something .
There are still 4 major boat builders here that export boats all over the world ,
one being Stanley Boats , but they are now all welded aluminum construction
with air compartments to make them unsinkable etc . but not my cup of tea for sure .
I'm surprised that I did not see anybody mention iboats.com yet? Or maybe they did, and I missed it. Anyhow, that's where I frequent for all boat related stuff. Their advice helped me with my boat, motor, and trailer restoration. And their Stupid Human Tricks While boating/Fishing forum always brings me some good laughs.
I frequent Hotboat.com also. Their forums have a spot for almost every kind of boat. Just be carefull about asking buildup questions, they'll have you spending $1000s of dollars in a matter of minutes!
