i installed a new reciever into my explorer along with subs and an amp, im pretty sure i fried the speakers, i heard like a pop/buzz sound and then smelled burning??? what does that mean??? now only my subs play, i would like to get rid of them and just get factory speakers, anyone got any 6x8 they wanna get rid of for free or cheap? maybe i'll sell u my subs
thnx
check fuses first. IF you think the speakers are gone and the amps are ok, just hook up a random speaker to the amp, turn the gain and vol all the way down if it cant handle that power. Do not use stock speakers if sound quality counts. Getting coax 6.5" 's in the door is easy any shop will have the adapter plate. Get two ways and there are really easy ways of putting in the tweets. There are some brands that have 5 1/4" with a 1" tweet built on a 6x8 5x7 plate, too easy !!
Ok Give us something to work with. What kind of Amp and what is the wattage. what kind of face (stereo). What type of Subs and the wattage. How did you hook them up. Did you use 10gauge for the power and run it directly from the battery. Do you have a fuse in line. It would be like a 35 or so. Also on the amp, do you have the gain at like halfway?
its not the amp im having a problem with, its the factory speakers, the head unit is a JVC rated at 45 watts per channel for 4 channels, i get no sound out of the factory speakers, sub and amp are fine
Q: when you installed the head unit did you splice in the wire connections to the speakers or did you buy a wire harness that fit your explorer year, make , and model?
Q2: Does your explorer have an OEM installed amp with a bass module installed in the rear cargo side panel? And did you splice into the wires going to that, from your head unit?
Q3: what is the year of your explore?
Q4: did all four door speakers quit working or just one or two of them? Like the two left or two right door speakers?
If your explorer was equiped with a built in amplified system you can only hook into that with the appropriate wire harness that has an adjustment control for the voltage to the amplifier , other wise you can do one of two things burn out your OEM amp or your head unit.Keep in mind by saying built in OEM I'm not talking about your amp YOU put in. The second way is a wire harness that bypasses the OEM amplifier for direct connection to the speakers.
First thing i'd do is verify the speakers are actually blown, disconnect one of the wires going to one speaker and hook it to a remote speaker you know works. Use the process of elimination.
ok, its a 95 explorer, notin special wit the sound, was originally just an am/fm system, and i bought a connection intstead of splicing, but i had spliced the original wires before to hook up my amp
