What would be some of the best door speakers I could get without an amp? One of my friends had some that sounded like he had a decent 10" sub and the speakers were really clear sounding. No one believed him when he said that he didn't have a sub or an amp to power the speakers.
The "Best" speakers are the one that sound the best to you! Everyone hears things a bit differently. Go to a couple of stereo shops, not the box stores and bring your own music while listening to as many different brands of speakers as you can handle. Once you decide what "sounds" good to you and fits your budget then make your choice.
Most head units these days will do an OK job of powering your speakers for the door as most are very efficient. I would also recommend buying online as you can get some great deals.
You could consider a component set-up as well, but will require a small hole in your door panel for the tweeter mount. Crutchfield sells lots of cool stuff (not an advertisement) that you will not find at Best Buy etc. My gallery shows my component set-up, which is basically a two--or more--speaker set-up, with speakers to match your liking. Components to me are unique, and add a super high quality tight sound at a very reasonable price point.
I was thinking about getting kappas for the 6-1/2 and for the 4x6. How do people that have heard them like them? What about them compared to the alpline s-type? Thank you, Tyler.
As far as the Kappas are concerned if they sound good to you then that is all that matters, don't buy them just because someone else says they are the best or sound good. Let "YOUR" ears be the judge.
A higher or lower speaker impedance (OHMS) doesn't make it any better a speaker it just makes it different for different applications. Typically it's with subs but also done with true high end systems. For your door applications don't be concerned they will pretty much be all 4 OHMS for what you will be looking at.
i personally have rockford fosgate t162s they sounded great without an amp now they really blast since i upgraded to an amp they are rated for 100w rms per speaker so they are really loud i have a sony 222 powering them. also the lower the impedance or "load" of a speaker the more (watts) is going to "ask" the amp to put out, but its also harder on the amp to do so and if its not rated to be stable at the ohm of the speaker it can and most likely will eventually kill the amp. it typically wont matter in your case since im pretty sure most speakers are 4 ohm.
