I've noticed the connectors beneath the bumper on my 99 Ranger (2wd-3.0L) and think it's the for fog lights. Before I run out and buy a new valance with the fog light holes I had a question about the wiring harness for the switch. Should I have a harness behind the radio bezel for the switch if I have conenctions for the fog lights? I looked for it but did not see it anywhere.
Theoretically, it seems you should have that harness laying behind the radio, taped up.
Of course, there are freak things that lead to them not being put in at the factory or maybe the headlight switch would be the way to activate yours, like in Exploders of recent years.
I've heard of lesser trim levels than my 94 XLT having them wired in, but mine has nothing, so I just bought a harness from AutoZone and drilled a switch in.
Well I took out most of the dash to replace some bulbs and didn't see the harness. There were a couple of relays and modules but no harness. But I'll check again to make sure it's not hidden somewhere. I may just go with your suggestion and stick the harness in myself. Thanks.
Chris
Ok, I've looked behind the radio and instrument cluster, but still can't find the harness for the fog light switch. Assuming my (99-2wd-3.0L) Ranger isn't prewired with a harness (although it has the connectors for the fog lights), does anybody know the colors of the wires that should be connected to the switch? I want to splice it and install my own harness.
I want to verify a wiring diagram and color code for the wires. I have two different diagrams with two different codes. I need to figure out which one is right.
As Al mentions, there does seem to be some occasions where parts of the required fog lamp wire harness(es) are missing on some Rangers, either behind the dash or at the lights themselves. Not sure why that is.
I had a 94 2wd that was wired the same way. The harness was in place from the bumper back to the fuse panel, but not from the fuse panel to the dash. I guess it wasn't worth the trouble to put the wiring for the relays & switch if it wasn't going to have the fog lights.
