Hello all! I am new to the forum and have a question. I bought a used 2000 ford ranger XLT 3.0 with 5 speed manual. I bought it in florida and just got it home to nebraska and wondering if i might have a problem with my transmision. I have a somewhat steep driveway and when I parked it in first it sloowly and a little jerkily starts rolling backward. I can just use the parking brake but it gets kind of cold here and prone to freezing up. Do I have a problem or just a steep driveway? Thanks!
Do a compression test on the engine. If all the cylinders read good then you've got a steep driveway.
If you drive the truck in nose first, you'll be able to reverse out if the p/brake gets frozen. Once you're on flat ground, you can yank & tug on the cables to free them up.
AL.
Yeah i agree with dealford, you might also want to have your clutch pad looked at if its really worn then that might be slipping. Might also have something to do with the clutch not applying enough pressure on the clutch pad, so that could make it slip as well. As always try the cheapest things first. good luck.
