oh by the way when I had my 2000 7.3 I also smelled exhaust in the cab when it set for a long time. You just notice that distince diesel smell very easily. I got in my Nissan Xterra today and let it run this morning and I really had to think about smelling the exhaust in order to notice it. I backed it out and let it sit in order to see if I would notice the gas engine smell and I really didnt at all. Just some food for thought.
I smelled exhaust in my cab on the way to work this morning. I was thinking of the posts here above and became concerned that I might have the same problem. WELL, it turned out to be the Dodge in front of me stinking up the highway and it's exhaust getting in the air vents to my heater. I passed that Dodge with ease and the stink went away. Imagine that, the Dodge was the culprit. My Superduty 60 Crew is awesome!
After a while you will not smell the diesel very long. Our nose cancels out natural non danger smells automatically. Ever wonder why some people put on WAY to much cologne? After a while they stop smelling it.
We don't smell "normal" scents in order to heighten the danger smells.
So hang in there. You won't smell for long...

I know diesel fumes are non harmful but try to convince you're customer this

What do you mean the fumes are 'non harmful"? If that were the case, how about sitting in an enclosed garage with your truck running, do you think that wouldn't be harmful? They put exhaust pipes on these for a reason, which is to direct it away from the cab where the people are so as not to endanger them.
traded in 96 f250 powerstroke with 130,000miles, have 3500 miles on 05 f250 crew cab w/ long bed. all miles are towing 16,000 lb 5th wheel, love this truck, no problems except wish the water temp guage was accurate, waiting for a fix from ford, in summer heat it showed momentasry overheating when pulling up steep grades for a few seconds then guage drops to normal, definately guage wrong cause truck not overheating best truck i ever owned
The temp guages are in 4 steps, I would get a secondary for the post or dash on either side of the wheel.
The 4 steps are warm, almost hot, hot, and too freaking hot, (I guess they saved money on them.... )
I just got my truck back from the dealer on this exact issue and they replaced the entire dash cluster for a faulty guage. Still have the turbo "FART" when towing.
Wow, they actually replaced the whole cluster! Amazing!
I have to take my PStroke out of town to get it worked on, as the local dealer is really asinine (sp) about the lock I put on the OBD plug under the dash so they can not flash it without me knowing about it first!
Another problem for me, whoopeee I just washed my '05 an low and behold what do I spy? Rust on the front bumper... Oh well, off to the dealer again..and again...and again....etc...
I just picked up my truck and got the work order... Hmmm, all of my problems and they say it is working as designed AGAIN. All they did was a re-flash. They said they couldn't see where the control center was not working, even though when I took it to them and showed the service mgr it was completely dark not to mention he worked on it for over a half hour himself. Said they could not reproduce any of the problems after I left, DUH it hasn't been -20 for days now. I am begining to feel like I am the nut here with phantom problems that only I can see.... And they do all of this with a straight face
You know I was wondering today as I rode down the road if an international dealer can or should I say "will" work on a Ford powerstroke? I mean they created it afterall....I would think if anybody has engine problems and does not have a good diesel tech at their local dealership then possibly the international people will work on it. They work on them everyday and its also their engine! I wonder if they would work on it?
