My gas gage stopped working again this week. It is the fuel sending unit. The brass float is full of fuel once again. This happened three times before (in last 4-5 years). First two times I replaced the sender assembly (about $100 each). Last time I drilled the float, drained it, and resealed with epoxy. Lasted 6 or 8 months.
Is there a source where I can get just the float? Perhaps a non-brass, solid float (material like float in Holley carb). If not a cheaper place to buy sender assembly would be appreciated.

I was in a pinch once on an old car I was fixing up, and I actually used a carb float on the end of the arm. I used some soft steel wire I had to mount it on the arm. Worked for me.
I just had a thought. I have never had a problem with the float in my truck, and I was wondering why you do? Could your float actually be rubbing the tank somewhere?
If the dealer has the float I would prefer that option. I didn't know they were available speparately - especially for an old truck. Thanks for the tip.
