ok....heres the dilema....i need to find a good cam for an 88 5.0 HO speed density motor......it it going into a truck so i want a cam mostly for high torque applications....the e303 is the only one i can find for a computer controlled vehicle that will work with a speed density. i know someone out there runs this popular cam....so would it be good in a truck? with that stock application? or has anyone been successful with another cam in this similar setup? thank you
The E-cam is a great blower cam for Mustangs but tends to lack the power down low for a N/A truck application. My brother and I put one in his 94 F-150 5.0 (mass air) and it didn't really pull good until we got the RPMs up a little. A higher stall converter will definately help with this cam. Crane and comp make camshafts that would probably be better suited for your applciation. The best way would be to get a custom grind cam that will allow you to make the most of your combo. Also, I don't think the E-cam can be used with speed density due to the lobe separation.

ok .....heres one to blow the mind......ive decided to just break down and get a mass air conv. so i wont be so limited on cam choice.....i looked on ebay and found the whole kit for cheap off an 89 mustang gt.....but the computer was an 8ld and not an a9l....researched it and 8ld is a california mustang computer......ok.......so whats the difference? 8ld = 89 5.0l mustang manual........a9l= 89 5.0l manual.....what is different in the computer for a california car?....thanks
A mass air conversion will allow you to run just about any cam you want, but there are still better off-the-shelf cams compared to the E cam.
From what I understand, emissions systems are a little different on CA vehicles, so I can't say that the 8ld would be just as effective as an A9L or like in stock form. The good thing about using one of those PCM's is that almost any tuner in the country can program a chip for it. If you are going to get a chip, then I would call the place first to see if they can work with that particular catch code.
blurry .....i thank you for the advice......i really wanted one of those truck and rv cams....the ones with tons of torque.....so when i get the mass air conversion i wont go with an e cam....ill shop around for more low end torque
