The great experiment

So I got around to ripping out the bracket master 2 cam that the previous owner had installed into the 302 thats sitting in my 78. I replaced it with a more sensible 4x4 250h grind from comp (351 firing order) and it was good, my milage went from 8 to 11ish and my low end perked up alot. But that wasnt good enough so I decided to try giving the cam a bit more advance, about 4 degrees. So a week ago I tore the engine down and did just that, heh its been pinging suicidally ever since even with the vacuum advance disconnected and the timing down at 6 degrees, and generally running like crap with poor fuel milage. So yesterday I tore it down again and put the cam back at straight up. The cam already has 4 degrees in it so I guess its sensible to assume that 8 would be a bad thing. Anyhew the experiment was run and it was a failure
