I've heard of a few people making it work with a mustang speed density computer, but it required a bit of tuning to get the bugs worked out.Personally i'd just get a speed density friendly cam there are plenty of good ones out there.
Crane makes one for a roller motor w/speed density as well, it's Compucam 2020, #444211. RPM range is 1500-5000, duration @.050 is 208/216, lift is .530. I talked to the Crane Tech guys, and they said this is about the only cam they make that will work with S/D. It requires stiffer springs as well, and since the springs Crane recommends are tapered, you have to use their retainers. The spring/retainer/lock set is #44308. -TD
thanks for all the info guys. the cam would be going in 87 mustang LX coupe 5spd. guess I should have given that info in the first post, never even thought about it.
Depending on what you want to do with the car (Haul butt/go fast, or better milage/efficiency) you might be better off to convert to Mass Air first, then swap cams at a later date (depending on your budget, of course) Mass Air wiil allow you a lot more flexibility in cam choice, as well as opening the door for other mods. A Mustang is generally a go fast type of car, so the Crane cam I recommended above would not be my first choice. Yeah, I put one in my 5.0, but it's going in a truck. -TD
