Retrieving Engine Computer Codes
I have a '95 Ranger SC w/ the 4.0 liter engine. Here's the problem, my check engine light comes on sometimes, but not all of the time. I'm thinking o2 sensor since it has about 55,000 miles on it. I know that with Chrysler and GM vehicles you can retrieve the computer codes by either jumping pins on the connector (Chevy) or by turning the key on and off three times (Chrysler) and the check engine light will flash the code. Does anyone know of a technique similiar to these for retrieving the codes out of Fords? I really don't want to purchase a code reader. Can anyone help me with this one?

i have a '90 Ranger w/the 4.0 too. Something just came up and i too needed the codes. I got a book off my friends dad, it's by Haynes, and it tells you how to do it. When you're under the hood, to the left, where the box of fuses are, clipped to the side of it is a wiring harness with 2 plugs in it, a small one and a big one tucked under a piece of plastic. You need to use a piece of wire from the small plug to the big plug. on the big plug there are two holes up top, then 4 underneath it. put the wire to the the top hole to the right and to the small plug. Now you have to start the truck, and the CHeck engine light will light half as many times as cylinders there are, 2=4, 3=6, then turn the steering wheel half way, hit the brake real quick and eventually it'll start spitting out codes. you need to write em down and then you kinda need the book to tell you what the code is.
