I used to have a pickup truck that I could slip a jumper wire on to retrieve the engine codes using the dashboard check engine light. Is this possible on the Escape? Has anyone tried this? I know Autozone will check it for free now, but I wanted to know if this method still works.
I don't think so. There is a sequence that will display lots of data via your odometer (fuel pressure, checks lights/gauges, etc) but it won't display the codes.
OBD-II scan tool required. CAN version if 04 or newer. If you go to AutoZone, make certain the idiots there know they need a CAN-capable scanner if you're 04 or newer.
