Ford Code Reader Retrieval Help!
i bought a Ford Code Reader for my 1991 F150 with a 5.8L 351w and an e40d transmission. i know where to plug the code reader into but need help retrieving codes. the manual it came with is super confusing and i cant figure out if the engine is suppose to be on or off doing retrievals? can anyone help im so confused

It depends which set of codes you are trying to pull. Which reader did you get?
On mine the steps are as follow
1. Ignition & reader off
2. Plug in reader
3. Turn on ignition (Not motor)
4. Turn on reader
5. Push test on reader
6. After test is finished turn off reader & unplug reader
7. Turn off ignition
8. With reader unplugged from vehicle turn on the reader and press the memory button to retrieve codes
