That's not possible.

A spark plug needs around 20,000 volts to jump the gap. Only a coil will give you that. A coil jumps the voltage up and releases it to the plugs when power is removed from the coil, not applied to it.

You don't NEED an injector. You can use the choke method, but half of the raw gas you'll be dumping into the cylinders will end up going past the rings and into the oil. Try running the engine with the choke all the way out for a while, then check your oil. You'll see what I mean.

Momudder, I can send you the diagrams and a photo of my circuit if you want. I can gaurentee with 100% certainty that you will not get a constant (if any) spark from a 12v battery.

So THAT'S how a coil works. I've been wondering that. Pretty much just a 20,000 volt capacitor, huh? Hence the relay you used, to apply power, and then take it away at the flick or a switch. I guess that why, when you leave only the coil hot for a period of time, it burns up. There's no release of all that stored up energy. Or maybe not... For an atomizer, I'm thinkin maybe just a pinhole or two in a piece of 3/8 steel line with the end crimped. Course, I'll probably end up with either A) a burnt down shop or B) a pile of useless electrics and plumbing.

Sorry OKC, I tried it tonight. Jumped a spark plug from the + to the - terminal of the battery and no sparky. I'll have to talk to my old scoutmaster to see how he did it 40 years ago. He did it very simply, but we've got out wires crossed somewhere (lame attempt at a joke, I know).

OKC,

If you say you saw it, I'm not gonna call ya a liar. But, what I will say is that with todays spark plugs and batteries, it won't work. As for the lawnmower, yes, they put out around that much voltage. Different method (magnet flying past a coil), but similar results. In fact, I thought I read somewhere that a static shock (like from rubbing your feet on carpet) is upwards of 5000 volts. Don't quote me on that though.

Momudder (and everyone else),

Check out "howstuffworks.com" and look in the automotive section for more info on how coils work. You can also look up capacitors it you want. Very cool stuff. If you go to this site, BE CAREFUL. It's more addicting that drugs. The first time I went there I spent 9 hours reading about everything from Northern lights to jake brakes.
